Jerry Seinfeld has a bit that goes something like this: “My wife deals with all that nonprofit stuff. In my family, when they talk about a nonprofit business, we say that doesn’t sound like a good business.”
He was joking. But there was a kernel of truth in his comment. Names matter. And, for a sector like ours to have a negative name—nonprofit—makes little sense to me. Especially when there is so much profit in the work that we do.
